Apple reaps golden Q1 harvest

Apple Inc. beat Wall Street’s predictions as it doubled its Y-o-Y profit booty from iPhones, iPads and Macs for its Q1 2012. Apple generated revenue of $46.33 billion, with a net profit of $13.06 billion for the quarter finishing December 31, 2011. It’s a blow to arch rival Google Inc.’s solar plexus as Apple’s net profit for the quarter alone surpasses Google’s total revenue for the same period, with the Internet major posting revenue of just above $10 billion. Apple’s revenue for the quarter jumped by nearly 75% from the $26.74 billion it generated for the same quarter a year ago, while net profit more than doubled from $6 billion. The latest version of the company’s celebrated iPhone – the iPhone 4S, had a significant impact on figures, with over 37 million iPhones being sold in the quarter – that’s a mammoth 128% jump from units shipped for the same period a year ago. The company also sold more than 15 million iPads for the quarter – an 111% rise over Q1 2011; and 5.2 million Mac computers – a 26% increase Y-o-Y. However, the company witnessed a decline of 21% Y-o-Y in its iPod sales, which were 15.4 million for the period. The company is expected to launch its TV offering – the iTV, as well as a new version of iPhone, later this year.
