As Google Inc.’s $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. moves toward final regulatory approval, Motorola’s going after Google’s rival Apple Inc. by slapping it with its latest patent infringement lawsuit. This time round, Motorola’s aim is at the latest version of iPhone – the iPhone 4S, which Apple launched last October. As per the suit filed in US Court for the southern district of Florida, Apple has supposed to have infringed on six patents related to mobile technology, including Apple's iCloud content storage service. Google’s Android OS is an arch rival to Apple’s iOS that powers iPhones, and the Internet giant had publicly stated that the Motorola purchase is intended in part to help bolster Android's legal standing, and protect it from patent litigation. Spokespersons of both Google and Apple refused to comment.
